ABOUT DEBORAH ROSS


Deborah Ross' career in clinical social work began in 1986. In 1994 she served as a community and school mediation specialist for the Clark County Neighborhood Justice Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1998, she developed and ran a peer mediation and violence prevention program for the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District and Youth and Family Counseling Association. She is also an adjunct professor of Social Work and Psychology at New York Institute of Technology and runs a psychotherapy and divorce mediation practice in Oyster Bay, New York.

Deborah Ross received her undergraduate degree in Anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Masters of Social Work degree from Rutgers University. She also received a certificatation as a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) and has completed extensive training in Divorce Mediation.

Experiencing both marriage and divorce and being a single mother raising three children have given Deborah a deep understanding of the joys and difficulties of family and work life. These experiences and struggles have deepened her effectiveness as a psychotherapist and mediator.

Deborah Ross is dedicated to helping individuals, couples, children and families make positive changes to increase their emotional and physical well-being. Her compassionate, straightforward and honest approach has helped clients of all ages develop communication skills, get in touch with and express their needs and feelings, and build more satisfying relationships.

In addition to her private practice, Deborah Ross leads workshops on a wide variety of mental health topics including healthy relationships, child development, parenting, child abuse prevention, conflict resolution, suicide prevention, violence prevention, domestic violence, substance abuse, depression, and coping skills. She conducts trainings for mental health professionals and offers clinical supervision for social workers.  Deborah has also used her acting background to produce and present programs utilizing psychodrama, drama therapy and social drama.
